Merricat’s School Forms and Parent Resources
Below are all the forms you need to complete for the start of the Fall term. Click on a form to download the pdf. Each pdf has two versions of the form (one color and one black and white) Print the page that matches your printer.
ID badges: Please make sure that each person who will be dropping off or picking up your child has a current school ID badge. Badges must be worn at all times in the building – if you forget yours, please stop at the security guard’s desk in the lobby for a temporary pass. You must sign your child in/out at the security desk. Please be certain to sign up and receive your pin number.
Pick up: Please be sure to indicate at drop off who will be picking up your child. Any change in pick-up plan must be communicated to the office before the end of the school day.
Strollers: All strollers must be kept in the auditorium during school hours. If the auditorium is locked when you arrive, you may leave strollers in the foyer downstairs and they will be moved into the auditorium for you. Please do not leave strollers outside, and do not leave any valuables in your stroller. And please put your name on your stroller as many families have the same or similar strollers!
Weather related School Closing
If NYC Public Schools are closed, Merricat’s will also be closed. Please check your email after 7 am regarding Merricat’s school closing if Public Schools remain open.
Our Parents Association
Co-Presidents: Veronica Moo and Lauren Bettman
Through joining a committee of our Parents Association, by reading a story at circle time, volunteering for the library, sharing a holiday custom or attending a social event, parents forge deep, lasting and genuine relationships with each other and with the staff as they are involved in all the aspects of the life of the school.
Class Parents: Each Merricat’s classroom has three class parents who will contact you periodically with event information and volunteer opportunities. Feel free to reach out to them with questions or ideas, or to volunteer your services!
Events and Volunteer Opportunities
Parent Cocktail Parties: Dates TBA, – a family from each classroom hosts a cocktail party for the parents to meet and get to know one another.
Thanksgiving Food Drive: to benefit the families of Echo Park, a program of the Association to Benefit Children (see below).
Teacher appreciation luncheon: we will need volunteers to help put together a great lunch to show our appreciation for our wonderful teachers.
Envelope stuffing: if you have any free time after drop off or before pick up, we occasionally need help stuffing envelopes for mailings. Caregivers welcome!
Merricat’s Library: volunteers to organize and maintain our library – please let us know if you are interested in helping.
Merricat’s Annual Auction
The auction is an amazing evening that raises money for our scholarship fund. The success of the auction depends on lots of help from lots of people – starting very soon and running right up until auction night in May. Merricat’s asks every family to provide or secure donations to be auctioned, and there are many other ways to help. We will have an auction meeting soon, but here are some committees you may wish to consider – if you have questions, ideas or a particular interest, please contact Linda at email@example.com.
Email/Telephone team: verify contact information for past donors and local businesses.
Donor contact/donor acquisition: help secure great items to be auctioned and includes tracking and follow up.
Food co-chair/committee: solicit and organize food donations for the auction night dinner.
Decoration/set up: help transform the auditorium for the event.
Boutique committee: Help set up the auction boutique, which sells a wide range of items (toys, books, clothing, etc – all new) and gift certificates at school during auction week.
Classroom projects committee: You can help make the beautiful class projects that are always hot items at the auction.
We are also interested in any other talents you or a family member might be willing to share with Merricat’s children or donate for the auction (for instance, musicians, magicians, chefs, artists, photographers… you name it!).
Association to Benefit Children (“ABC”)
Throughout the year, Merricat’s families will have the opportunity to participate in activities that benefit ABC programs, including a Thanksgiving food drive and a holiday gift collection for the families of Echo Park. You will also receive invitations to ABC’s major fundraising events, the Thanks for Giving benefit (November) and the annual ice skating party at Rockefeller Center (December). You can learn more about ABC and its programs at www.a-b-c.org. If you are interested in volunteering at ABC, please contact Judy Holtzman at 212-845-3823 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
